The School of Forensic Sciences (SFS) at the NFSU Nagpur Campus is aligned with the university's overarching mission to infuse scientific rigor into the criminal justice system, particularly in Maharashtra State. The school focuses on developing highly specialized forensic experts by offering key programs like the M.Sc. Forensic Science and the Professional Diploma in Crime Scene Management. The curriculum is designed to be highly interdisciplinary, covering both traditional forensic domains—such as Fingerprints, Questioned Documents, Forensic Chemistry, and Ballistics—and modern, cutting-edge areas including Forensic Biology, DNA Profiling, and the basics of advanced forensics, thereby preparing students for the complexity of contemporary criminal investigation.
To fulfill the need for rapid scientific support for law enforcement, the SFS emphasizes practical, hands-on training and a problem-solving approach, often utilizing advanced instrumentation and simulated crime scenarios. Beyond degree courses, the school plays a crucial consultancy and training role, providing customized programs for in-service officers from the police, judiciary, and other investigative agencies in the state. While the campus is currently operating from a temporary facility, the SFS faculty contribute to the wider NFSU research culture, which spans areas like Forensic Physics, DNA, Forensic Chemistry, and Toxicology.
